CAMBRIDGE

It's hard to avoid bikes this year wherever you are in the UK, let alone here.

But, believe it or not, in Cambridge...

...there are many ways to escape the darn things (or is it just me who dares to be bored with bikes?)

Here, for example, you will find the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology where you can see objects collected on Captain Cook's voyages and other South Seas kit, donated by these jolly chaps.

South Seas necklace.

Native American Mask.
Roarrrrrr!

There's free entry to many museums and to the grounds and chapel of Pembroke College.

We ended our visit, on foot, with an afternoon of quiet contemplation in the Fitzwilliam Museum.

Zadie Smith said, "Cambridge was a joy...people reading books in a posh place."
Perfect, despite the bikes.

    1. I know, I know - I don't hate bikes, I'm just dreading the overwhelming hype that will accompany the Tour de France up here in Yorkshire.

  4. We have bike lanes in Palo Alto. Of course, my city is only a bit more than 100 years old! Love the South Seas necklace. Cambridge too.

    1. I don't really hate bikes, Julie - it's just that the famous Tour De France race is starting in our part of England this year and the media over-do the hype and frenzy!

  5. I have only been to Cambridge once but was overwhelmed by its beauty. I should really go again when I can. As for bikes...they're starting the Tour very near my old home town and the hype has already begun!

    1. I believe Stage 1 is Leeds to Harrogate, then York to Sheffield. I don't really hate bikes - I just don't like being told to be excited. In fact, Mr N swears by afternoon bike rides to keep himself fit. I hope that's not in a Last of the Summer Wine way!
