I think Dungeness is like Marmite.
We love it, but many hate it. We folk with a taste for it are rather smug too. We think we are a bit superior, a little more sophisticated than the rest of you. We visited the other day - what a treat!
The wind blows all the time and picturesque wrecks wait their turn to feature on arty greetings cards...
The light changes in a moment in the shadow of the nuclear power station.
Be prepared for something to happen at Dungeness. It never disappoints.

Dungeness is a photographers paradise - rusty old iron, weathered timbers, and not forgetting the odd bear or two - perfect.
ReplyDeleteLots of sand, sea, fish and fresh air too!
DeleteI agree with the above... I've not been to Dungeness but it is on my to visit list... hopefully one day I'll be well enough to have adventures again. Thanks so much for the images! Cx
ReplyDeleteHope you are feeling better soon. (Mr N finds Midrid effective for migraine - ask you doctor's advice.)
DeleteWell you could have knocked me down with a feather. We were there just after Lettice died and what a wild and woolly tonic it was... just what a sore heart needed. Didn't see the polar bear though.

I do agree Linda - it's very elemental down there. I love it. And it was good enough for Derek Jarman it's good enough for me.
DeleteI've never been but I love Marmite. I had no idea there were polar bears in England though. These ones look very friendly. Big, too. Absolutely fantastic!

There was just one bear Annie - it kept moving around!
DeleteWow! There's some great photography in your post. I'm intrigued, what's with the polar bear? If I wasn't from the UK I might have been fooled it's a real one - he's so life like!
ReplyDeleteThank you! The bear was unbelievable - it even walked. Not sure just what was going on...
DeletePolar bear?
ReplyDeleteJulie x
Not sure how it worked, but it could even walk. It didn't seem at all fierce and there weren't people inside it like a panto horse. There were a few students around with cameras...
DeleteI know you post these photos more than a year ago, but they are really cool.
DeleteI was searching the internet for nothing special and there was one photo that caught my eye.
It was the one where the polar bear is looking at the ship and I know this polar bear.
To answer your question, the polar bear is called Paula and to ruin the magic, there are two people inside.

Thank you for the info on the polar bear. It was a really amazing day for us, especially our encounter with Paula!
DeleteNilly, what? who? why? how? polar bear? C'mon.
ReplyDeleteJean x
It was very realistic, walked around and all - there were students with cameras and it seemed to be with them. Mr N thought it must be electronically controlled.
DeleteWhat a very atmospheric post nilly, I loved the images you have taken always stunning. The polar bear was a surprise though!
ReplyDeleteWe THINK it was a student project as there was filming going on. It really made our day - such a surprise and so surreal.
DeleteWow...... wonderful pictures!
ReplyDeleteHave a nice day
Christine
Thank you, Christine.
DeleteI just love all the photos...with and without the bear. Fabulous. Jx
ReplyDeleteThe bear was such a treat and somehow fitted in with the surreal look of Dungeness.
DeleteBeautiful photos but please... what's with the polar bear, was it an animatronic? because it was photographed in lots of different body positions...
ReplyDeleteWe couldn't work it out really, but you might well be right. It seemed to be part of a student film project.
DeleteWonderful photos. You'll make a fortune with the greetings cards. Barbara
ReplyDeleteLike everything else I do - someone's always done it before me, I'm afraid.
