CAT or DOG ?

Or perhaps both? Which are you?

I collect cats AND dogs - like this tiny puppy cachou tin.

An antique embroidery of Carefull the cat.

Not a terracotta warrior, but a terracotta terrier.

Proud mother Puss.

Another painted pet.

A humble spongeware pottery moggy.

Daniel the spaniel.

This one is a money box - I'm saving up to add to the collection...

The other day, in a country church, I came across this little canine companion carved on a 15th century alabaster tomb, tenderly nibbling his mistress's robe. People have always loved their dogs and cats...

Here's our choice, though Harrogate Harry is sadly long gone.

  2. I'm afraid for me its cats and dogs in soppy Victorian prints, and as they've been banned from the rest of the house they're all hanging in the kitchen which, in a most un-liberated manner, I call "mine"!
I do however have a dog's gravestone in the garden which I found in a salvage yard...a little terrier caled Needle who died in 1856.

    I love your collection

    1. Mr N is green with envy over your doggy gravestone. (Poor man - I call the whole house "mine")

  3. Both for me please. Our grumpy British short haired cat Pendragon, who one day will be joined by a rather dashing wire haired fox terrier who will be known to all as Fruity Metcalfe.

    1. I must admit we once had a fox terrier in the family and he was a super little chap & a great friend.

  4. So observant of you to notice that delightful little canine nibbling on his long gone mistresses robe.
I love your terracotta terrier - there is something very endearing about him.

    1. He was a handsome beast! My cousin, who thinks of herself as a bit of white witch, has a real black cat called Salem.

    1. That painting holds some memories for us - we bought him at a fair in Darlington over 20 years ago.

  10. I am most definitely a doggy person, but Carefull the cat gets my vote for its simple, naive charm.
