A LAMP OF ONE'S OWN

Lucky Leonard Woolf and John Lehmann, reading by the light of a Bloomsbury lamp. I've always wanted one - you could call it lamp lust.

Duncan Grant sometimes painted pictures of the lamps he lived with.

(The real thing.)

Vanessa Bell made this lamp and shade - others have followed suit.

Here is another, at Charleston Farmhouse, starring in a film with Patti Smith!

I've searched online for a lamp of my own and visited the shop at Charleston to hunt through their classy souvenirs for just the right shade - to no avail.
Then a few weeks ago a kind fellow-blogger got in touch with me. She had a Bloomsbury lamp for sale and remembered that I "needed" one!

Thank you so much Jean (of the Shrimpton and Perfect blog)!

  2. Yes, so I hear, though perhaps she will be back. Happily, Jean is still Tweeting a lot, with lots of useful links and information. I'm not sure Twitter is for me though I look occasionally.

  3. Will you be reading by it, or painting pictures of it?

  7. It is most interesting - the sort of lamp I might create myself. I hope I get the chance to do a bit of furniture painting and decoration.
