Did you see the solar eclipse today?
We were at the East of England Showground in Peterborough today, attending a big antiques event, and antiques-hunting got a bit tricky at about 9.30 am when dusk appeared to fall, though the sun was already quite high in the sky.
Photo courtesy of Mr N who had become bored with antiques by this time.
Things soon got back to normal and, though the sunlight had a surreal glow for a moment or two, few people seemed to have noticed the rare astronomical event.
We voted the eclipse the most exciting event of the week (sorry Mr Osborne).

Both you and Mr. N. captured the event well. After rummaging in my cupboard I found my eclipse glasses which gave a brilliant view of the whole process, much better than the last eclipse we viewed 16 years ago.
ReplyDeleteWas it really 16 years ago? I can't believe our youngest was only 12 then - and, now I remember, oldest granddaughter was a baby and experienced the eclipse on a nudist beach in Brighton!
DeleteWe so wanted for it to be the most exciting event of the week but London was covered in thick cloud and we ended up watching it on the telly. Would have loved to come to your antiques fair though.
ReplyDeleteWhere we were in Peterborough the atmosphere during and after the eclipse was quite dramatic - and spooky!
DeleteI love that elephant....great eclipse photo too Mr N.
ReplyDeleteI resisted the elephant - but found came home with some pretty nice things!
DeleteWhat brilliant photos - and I love that elephant too! We hardly noticed the eclipse as we had a lot of cloud just when it was due. However, I foolishly looked up just as the sun popped out and was semi-blinded for the next ten minutes....how daft I am!

The elephant stall had some really interesting early 19th century diaries & other books too, sadly costing rather a lot. It's amazing what you can still find at such fairs.
