A GEORGIAN VALENTINE

Here is a pretty Georgian Valentine that hangs on the wall, just outside our bedroom door. It's "Dedicated to Miss Peggy Good" and it may well be a proposal of marriage...

...just look at what he's offering! He might have to try a bit harder these days, don't you think?

  1. Absolutely, Nilly. Marriage and all the trimmings....honest, if not overly romantic. Axx

    1. But those were different times, I suppose. I wonder if she did all her own back-combing?

    1. True - but way back then it was probably the lesser of two evils!

  3. What a fab, naive image. I am chuckling at the back legs of the Georgian chair... I have never seen one with cabriole legs at every corner!

Will you be at Gateshead this Sunday? I still have your book....

    1. Yes!! That's our plan - it's been a long time. Somehow our favourite fairs have started clashing badly which is annoying because on some Sundays there are no good events within our 80-ish mile limit. I'm looking forward to the up-coming Middlesborough fair, by the way. Coincidentally, the Georgian Valentine came from Gateshead!

  4. I love it.... beautifully framed too. I like that it came from Gateshead....some of my the women in my northeastern family would recognise it as an accurate picture of the way their romantic dreams turned out....perhaps with a bit more of washing hubby's back in the tin tub when he got back from the pit as well. 1. We had a little tin bath when I was a child - I used it as a paddling pool in the garden. Very rough on the skin it was!

    1. Hope you've had a good weekend! We used to always go to Hexham, but now hardly ever, I'm afraid.
(I know Julie's secret, but I'm not telling!)

  6. Why outside the bedroom? Are you afraid she'll peep?

    1. The reason is much more dull, I'm afraid. There's too much sunlight in the bedroom so precious things have to be hung on landings & in hallways.

    1. It has a lot of charm I agree, though these days I don't think babies EVER feature on Valentines cards!
