We visited a great new antiques fair in Hartlepool today and lovely Julie from the Cloth Shed blog had a little book for me (see my last post). As well as useful stain removal recipes Julie pointed out some other helpful tips ...
...which I tried out today as soon as my "smalls" had dried.
Perfect!

Orange pop-socks and spotty knickers...Wow! And I thought I was cutting-edge on the style stakes.
ReplyDeleteYour tip about the Almond oil (at least I think it was yours Nilly?) is a winner. My desiccated physog is looking for all the world smooooth, light and bright. My purse is feeling full and content. Dr. Hauschka is crying into his pots and pans of potions. All's good in this part of Kent, thanks to you Nilly.

Not me with the almond oil tip LL - a bit of light tan boot polish does for me now!
DeleteJust ordered a container load (well five actually) of Mark's cards.

Glad you found them LL - I love his fabrics to be found here

I'm so glad my knickers are on the small side (though my backside is not...hmmm, how does that work?) well, anyway, I don't need to iron them.

I have to admit that my ironing skills are not much better than my stain removal skills!
DeleteOh for a pair of spotty knickers like those...did you see the combination/all in one underwear at the Fair in the far room? They would have produced a fantastic folding opportunity for the modern laundress.

PS I bought a lovely gents, collarless, dress shirt first thing...now steeping in indigo dye...x
I missed those! Indigo dyeing might be a good remedy for some of those problem stains.x
DeleteYour first pictures made me smile, my Mother used to wear knickers like those but I don't recall her ever ironing them. I do like your spotty pair.
ReplyDeleteMy granny wore exactly those too right up to the 1980s! Sadly, her skirts had become shorter by then so when she sat down we all knew which colour she was wearing that day!
DeleteLove this post! My nanna had knickers like that. And as for ironing my mother ironed everything, even nylons and put them on the clothes horse to air!!
ReplyDeleteWhat memories!!
Thank you for sharing.
Yes - I remember my mother-in-law ironing socks and stockings, and starching most things too!
